This waterfront residence sits along the shoreline of a former phosphate mine that has since become a lake. While the property offers beautiful views, the unique site conditions created significant challenges for shoreline stability and long-term property protection.
The site featured a steep, elevated bank, substantial water depths, and highly unstable subsurface soils. A geotechnical investigation revealed that suitable bearing material was not encountered until nearly 30 feet below the water surface, making conventional shoreline stabilization methods ineffective.
The existing seawall had not been designed to withstand these conditions and ultimately failed, allowing ongoing shoreline erosion to threaten the property. As soil loss progressed, signs of structural distress became increasingly evident, including ground settlement, cracking in the pool deck, and movement near portions of the home’s foundation.
Without immediate intervention, continued erosion could have resulted in further property damage, loss of usable yard space, and increased structural risks. A professionally engineered seawall and shoreline stabilization system was needed to restore stability and protect the long-term value of the home.
Brine Marine was tasked with solving several complex engineering and construction challenges:
Brine Marine designed, professionally engineered, and constructed a custom shoreline stabilization system tailored to the property’s unique geotechnical and structural requirements.
The solution combined a Truline Seawall System with a Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil (GRS) Wall, creating a highly engineered shoreline protection system capable of performing under challenging site conditions.
By integrating these two systems, the project achieved multiple objectives:
The engineered design provided the structural support necessary to protect the residence while creating a durable foundation for future landscaping and outdoor living enhancements.
The completed project transformed a failing shoreline into a stable, secure, and functional waterfront environment.
With the shoreline permanently stabilized, the property gained a larger, level backyard area that significantly improved both usability and aesthetics. The project also included a custom concrete seawall cap designed to accommodate future upgrades such as integrated lighting, seating features, and outdoor entertaining spaces.
Following construction, the newly reclaimed area was enhanced with:
The result is a beautiful and highly functional lakefront property that is protected against future erosion while maximizing the homeowner’s enjoyment of the waterfront setting.
